Second Annual Maximo Mukelabai Award Presented at AICPA E.D.G.E. Conference

Thought Leader Donny Shimamoto presented Jeremy Dillard with the Maximo Mukelabai Award at the AICPA’s E.D.G.E. Conference.

The American Institute of CPAs has named Jeremy Dillard, CPA, Partner, Rivera, Jamjian & Dillard, LLP, winner of the Maximo Mukelabai Award. Dillard was recognized for his dedication to the advancement of the accounting profession and his volunteer work within his community in California.

Donny Shimamoto, CPA, CGMA, CITP, Founder & Managing Director, Intraprise TechKnowlogies LLC presented the award at the AICPA’s E.D.G.E. Conference for leadership development in Austin, Texas. Shimamoto, a 2013 CPA Practice Advisor Thought Leader, received the first Maximo Mukelabai award last year.

“A talented author and speaker, Jeremy has devoted his time and energy into projects which have helped advance the profession,” said Jeannie Patton, AICPA Vice President, Academics, Professional Pathways and Inclusion. “His extensive commitment to volunteer work in his community, as well as his service to the AICPA and the California Society of CPAs, embody the values the Maximo Mukelabai award represents.”

Dillard is a current member of the AICPA’s governing Council and the Technical Issues Committee. He has previously volunteered for the Examinations FAR Committee and served as a technical reviewer for the AICPA’s IFRS Certificate. Dillard has contributed to multiple AICPA publications, including Save Wisely, Spend Happily. He is also a member of the California Society of CPAs Governing Council and was recently appointed to CalCPA’s Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards committee.

“I am incredibly honored to receive the 2013 Maximo Mukelabai Award. Maximo set a standard of professionalism that extends beyond providing client services to also include making a difference that impacts the community as well as the profession,” said Dillard.

In addition to his work for the profession, Dillard has been very active in the Los Angeles community. He has volunteered for the Pasadena Tournament of Roses since 2000 and East Los Angeles YMCA since 2006. Dillard was recognized by the U.S. Congress for his volunteer work on projects to provide assistance to low-income families during the holidays, as well as his work with the Pasadena Special Olympics. He has received the Presidential Service Award from the California Junior Chamber of Commerce in both 2000 and 2003 and has been recognized by the City of Los Angeles for his volunteer efforts.

“My involvement as a volunteer with the AICPA and CalCPA, as well as with the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and East Los Angeles YMCA have been fantastic,” said Dillard. “These activities have been very rewarding to me both professionally and personally, and I hope to continue them for many years to come.”

Mukelabai was a member of the inaugural class of the AICPA Leadership Academy and the youngest chair of the North Carolina Association of CPAs board of directors. Tragically, his life ended abruptly at the age of 36. The AICPA established the award in 2011 as a tribute to Maximo’s legacy and it recognizes a young CPA who personifies an unwavering commitment as demonstrated through their successful practices, involvement and contributions for the interest of the accounting profession.
